Losing traffic due to Inadequate link exits

Losing traffic due to inadequate linking

So you have gained another visitor to your website and obviously want to keep them for as long as possible, so why would you send them elsewhere?

Links are vital to the worldwide web! They encourage us to visit other websites from many different companies and countries and seek out other points of view relevant to the actual page or topic we are currently reading about. Exit linking is very basic tool, enabling you to add a link to your website that sends visitors to another site with information you believe may be of interest to them.

Search engines and directories are at the top of the linking leader board for good reason! These companies have made their fortunes merely by being adept at linking. However, where search engine and directories companies differ is that, once they have sent you away to your destination, they can be very confident that you will return to seek out further links in the future.

This is not the case for the average website and, at Technicweb; we see that many websites are literally throwing traffic away every single day by allowing the link to take hard earned visitors away from the website.  And how.......?

INADEQUATE EXIT LINKS!

In short, an inadequate exit link is simply the practice of linking to websites in the same browser window. By allowing the web browser your user is in to be re-directed to the website you link to, you have now lost the traffic you gained and, in some cases, this is even carried out on the actual homepage!

Allowing our websites to become “revolving doors” in which people come and go within seconds is clearly to no-one’s advantage; unless, of course, they buy in the process. However, there is a very simple and effective way to solve this problem......

When setting up your links, you need to ensure that the website being linked to opens in a new browser window. This basically means a new Internet explorer (or whichever browser you use) pops up with the website being shown. You have now given the user the chance to view the information you think they will find useful, but without leading them away from your own with no guarantee of them returning.

Technicweb’s Content Management System™ (CMS) includes a tool that allows you to do this with ease; making keeping traffic on your website about as straightforward as it can be!
